Police and Fire Commission
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is an independent Board responsible for the testing, hiring, promotion, termination, and disciplinary measures of Police Department staffing.

The Board consists of three commissioners appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Board of Trustees. One commissioner acts as a chairman. The board is obligated to follow state statute and law pertaining to their responsibility. They do not report to the Village Board per se.

The current goals of the Fire & Police Board are to test and hire individuals to fill the vacant, authorized patrol officer positions using the following objectives and to establish a new sergeant's promotional list.

The objectives of the commission are:
  • to provide the highest quality police officers through their testing process and to appoint the best qualified candidates to the Department,
  • to determine the most qualified candidates for promotion to supervisory ranks and to appoint those people,
  • and to provide an independent Board to hear disciplinary cases and take appropriate action.
